30,000+ Anti-Government Activists Rally in Kiev

Tens of thousands of Ukrainian anti-government activists rallied in the capital, Kiev, as the country’s national security agency warned of unspecified threats of terrorism.

About 30,00 opposition supporters turned out for Sunday’s rally in Kyiv’s Independence Square.

Opposition leaders repeated calls for constitutional reform and new elections that would hopefully unseat President Viktor Yanukovych.

Ukraine Protesters Seize Justice Ministry

Anti-government protesters have seized the Ukrainian justice ministry in Kyiv, after rejecting President Viktor Yanukovych‘s offer to name opposition leader Arseniy Yatsenyuk as prime minister, and former boxing champion Vitaly Klitschko as his deputy.

Yatsenyuk told a crowd that the opposition is “not afraid” of accepting more political responsibility, but that Yanukovych still has to meet several demands. They include early elections, freedom for jailed protesters, and repealing anti-protest laws.
